“Did you like dinner?” Brian asked. “Yeah,” Justin smiled. “I’m stuffed.” Brian and Justin entered the house. “Guys!” Molly shouted trying to disengage herself and got off from Kirk. “Sorry,” Justin said. “We were watching a movie,” Kirk told them ah he readjusted his clothes. “That turned into something more,” Brian said tongue in cheek. “So, you are here,” Molly said taking Kirk’s hand. “The kids are all sleeping. They were bathed and fed and changed.” “Thanks,” Brian said taking his wallet out and paying her. “Damn!” Molly said. “I’m free tomorrow too.” Brian laughed and shook his head. “Night, Justin,” Molly said. “Goodnight,” Justin waved at them. “Want to watch a movie?” Brian asked as he stared at the movie that was playing. “Sure,” Justin told him. “I’m going to check on the kids,” Brian told him. “Why don’t you make us some popcorn?” Justin nodded and went to the kitchen. He left it in the microwave and went to see the kids too. He smiled when he saw Brian with Liam in his arms just swaying. “Yes,” Brian told him. “I love you, Daddy,” Liam told him in a sleep voice. “I love you too, Sonny Boy,” Brian kissed him on the forehead and put him back on his bed. When Brian turned around he smiled at Justin. “How long have you been there?” Justin shrugged embarrassed at his emerging feelings for Brian. After all the kids were accounted for, they went back to the kitchen together. Brian put the popcorn in a bowl and they went to sit down. Justin was happy that he was getting to know so much about Brian. While they were at the restaurant Brian talked to him about what made him want to become an ad executive as well as other things. He watched fascinated by every expression that the man made. Brian pressed play and they watched the movie in silence. Earlier in the evening Brian had talked to Justin about his childhood once again. He had told him about Michael and how he missed him and he saw that it affected Justin hearing about everything without being able to remember much. “You didn’t tell me how we met,” Justin suddenly said. “I would like to know about that.” “Are you sure?” Brian asked. “The doctor did say not to tell you too much. That it would be more beneficial if you tried to remember by yourself.” “If I remembered that I think I would know no matter what anyone tells me,” Justin said. “Just give me some of the highlights; you can leave the small details out.” “Okay,” Brian told him. “It was my birthday and I was with Mikey at Woody’s. He kept insisting that he was going to take me home and I was kind of annoyed. I wasn’t ready to go home. So I left him and the place,” he smiled as he looked at Justin. “I came out and bumped into you. You were scared out of your mind.” “No way,” Justin muttered and smiled. “I thought I was seeing an angel,” Brian whispered and moved closer to Justin. “I told you so at the time. At least I think I did.” Justin smiled from ear to ear. “And then what?” “Then I brought you home with me,” Brian said. “Here?” Justin asked. “No,” Brian told him. “I had an apartment. I was living by myself.” “Oh,” Justin nodded for Brian to continue. “You were so scared, you had never been with anyone before,” Brian told him. “The truth was that I was scared too. I was trying to make everything perfect for you” Justin couldn’t believe he had forgotten such an amazing moment. “We had sex and that’s were we had a little accident,” Brian told him, “named Liam.” Justin chuckled. “Wow.” “Yeah,” Brian said. “From then on we have had our ups and our downs but we have stayed together.” “We love each other,” Justin muttered. “I mean we didn’t go married because of Liam, did we?” “No,” Brian told him. “We got married after the quads. We love each other very much Justin and we didn’t have to get married to know that. We did because I knew it was something you wanted and somehow I did too.” Justin stared at Brian’s lips and wanted to devour them. “Uh,” he swallowed. He looked away instead. “What?” Brian asked. “Nothing,” Justin told him and stared at the movie that he couldn’t focus on. “Jus,” Brian said the sound barely making it to Justin’s ear. Justin looked at the man and swallowed. He frowned because he thought that he didn’t know what kissing felt like or what sex would be like. He just couldn’t remember it. He knew both concepts but he was a total blank slate. Brian put his hand on the side of Justin’s neck and pulled him closer. “I’m going to kiss you.” “Okay,” Justin told him as all thought left him. Brian pressed his lips against Justin’s. He felt his stomach doing flip-flops. His hands traveled to Justin’s body just touching him wherever he could. He pushed his tongue inside Justin’s mouth and the blond moaned. “Brian,” Justin gasped as he pulled back. “What?” Brian asked. “That feels amazing,” Justin told him. He touched Brian’s lips and smiled. He moved forward and attacked Brian’s mouth. Brian was a bit surprised but kept on kissing Justin. He pulled Justin on his laps and they started rubbing against each other. He stopped them and looked at the blond. “Justin, maybe we should stop.” “What?” Justin asked. “Why?” Brian looked at him. “I don’t want you to do anything that you are going to regret later. And maybe we should wait until you remember our life.” Justin pulled back and got up. “You are right, Brian.” Brian got up as well. “I’m going to my room,” Justin told him before he changed his mind and attacked Brian again. Brian grabbed the blond before he could go and kissed him one last time. “Goodnight.” Justin smiled. “Later.” Brian stopped him from moving away. “Why did you say that?” “What?” Justin asked. Brian swallowed and could clearly see Justin’s response had been a coincidence. “Later, sunshine.” Justin smiled and went to his room. He didn’t know why but hearing Brian call him sunshine felt right. *** Chris opened the door and smiled at Brian. “Come on in.” “Where are the kids?” Brian asked him. “They are with Debbie,” Chris told him. “She insisted.” “I believe you,” Brian told him. “So, what are you doing here?” Chris asked. “I haven’t seen you in a while,” Brian told him. “Oh, don’t worry about that,” Chris told him as he walked to the laundry room. “I know that you have been busy with Justin.” “Yeah,” Brian agreed. “Has he remembered anything?” Chris asked. “No,” Brian told him. No matter how easily Justin had adapted it still hurt Brian that Justin didn’t remember their life together. “I’m sorry to hear that,” Chris told him. “Don’t worry about it,” Brian told him. He understood that Chris was facing his own struggles after losing Mikey. “So,” Chris said as he started taking some clothes from the drier. “What do you want?” “I came to see how you were doing,” Brian told him. “I’m okay,” Chris said and he was actually surprised that he wasn’t lying. “Although some days are easier than others, having the kids around has helped. I still feel like a part of Michael will always be with me because of them.” “How are the kids taking it?” Brian asked. “It’s hard,” Chris said. “They don’t get it. They just keep asking.” Brian sighed. “But these days I think they are just giving up,” Chris said. “It’s not fair.” “I know,” Brian told him. “I’m sorry. If you need anything you know I’m here for you and them.” “Yeah,” Chris nodded and smiled at Brian. “Thanks for asking Brian, really. Everything is getting better.” “Yeah,” Brian said and pulled out a white envelope. “I came to gave you this.” Chris grabbed it and opened the sealed envelope. He pulled out a check and then looked at Brian. “What are you doing?” “I want to do this,” Brian told him. “No,” Chris shook his head. He refused to be a charity case. “I’m their uncle and I want them to have something nice. You can buy it for them or hold on to it until they know what they want,” Brian said. “I can’t take this, Brian,” Chris said. “So, what you are saying is that if something had happened to me you wouldn’t help Justin?” Brian asked. “No,” Chris said. “Don’t turn this around like that.” Brian walked closer and put the check on Chris’ pocket. “You are family and you’re always going to be. So get used to it.” “But I don’t need this,” Chris said. “Then keep it in the event you ever do,” Brian told him. “Or put it in your account for all I care. You don’t have to use it,” he kissed Chris on the cheek. “Bye.” Chris stood there shaking his head. “You’re a stubborn man, Brian,” he called after the man. All he heard was silence. He smiled happy with the knowledge that he had people that cared for him and his kids. *** “Where is Mel?” Debbie asked suddenly. “She’s taking some time, Deb,” Ted told her. “What is she doing?” Debbie asked. “She’s saving up some money,” Ted said. Debbie frowned. “She and Lindsay are not getting back together?” “So far it looks that way,” Emmett said. “We are here,” Brian shouted. “And the cavalry too.” Liam came running and jumped in Debbie’s arms. “Hi.” Debbie kissed him and hugged him. “How is my champ doing today?” “I’m okay,” Liam told her and rubbed his cheek after Debbie pinched him. “Do we put the kids down on the floor to play?” Justin asked. Brian nodded. “They will run and scream and eventually get tired.” “Which now happens almost never,” Ted pointed out. Brian laughed and threw an arm around Justin’s shoulder. “Let’s go outside.” Justin nodded at him. “Is there something we don’t know?” Debbie asked. Ted and Emmett shrugged. “Chris is on his way,” Debbie said. “We’ll wait for him.” “Alicia is getting better,” Emmett said. “She’s talking to us.” “It’s tentative but she’s getting there,” Ted told Debbie. “She likes to play with Abe.” “That’s good,” Debbie smiled. “Are Jennifer and Craig coming?” Emmett asked. “She wanted me to set something for her.” “They can’t,” Debbie said. “They had some plans.” “I’ll guess I’ll call her later,” Emmett said. There was a knock on the door and then Chris came inside with Vicky and Andrew. “Hello,” Andrew said. “Hello.” Debbie got up and went to kiss her granddaughter and picked Andrew up. “Hello,” Andrew repeated. “He learned that today,” Chris said. “Hello,” Andrew said and giggled. “Lee-lee!” Vicky yelled when she saw Liam. Liam looked at Vicky and smiled. He went over to her and picked her up. He kissed her on the cheek before putting her back down on the floor. Alicia smiled at the girl and from then on started following her around. Abe walked over to his father and asked to be picked up. “I’m starving,” Chris said as he sat down. “Where are Brian and Justin?” Debbie went to the back door and stuck her head out. “Brian, let that boy breathe and come in here.” When Brian and Justin came inside everyone was sitting down. The younger children were in their high chairs. “We are here,” Brian said sitting down. Justin’s cheeks were a bit red. “Did you remember anything, Justin?” Chris asked. “No,” Justin told him. “Don’t ask me about that anymore. It really hurts me every time I have to say no. I hate it.” “I’m sorry,” Chris said. “No,” Justin shook his head. “It’s me. I’m the one that can’t remember.” Debbie passed the salad to Ted. “Don’t say that. It’s not your fault.” “So,” Emmett said. “You two look pretty cozy.” Justin looked at Brian and smiled. “We have gone out a few times.” “So you are like falling head...heels over head over Brian,” Emmett pointed out. “Yeah,” Justin said. “It’s weird sometimes.” Brian arched a brow. “How?” “You know everything about me,” Justin said. “And I’m still learning about you, about the kids and even about myself.” The table fell into silent until suddenly a roll of bread went flying across the table. “Sheridan!” Brian called his attention. “Huh?” Sheridan asked. It was the second time that Justin saw Sheridan doing his innocent act and he laughed knowing what the boy was doing. “Don’t do that,” Brian told him knowing that Justin’s laughter would only encourage Sheridan’s behavior. “Huh?” Sheridan just stared at his father. Justin was still chuckling. Brian looked at him. “Justin.” “No,” Justin said. “He’s so adorable, Brian. He’s trying to play innocent. My boy.” Everyone was smiling. Brian realized that to Justin it was like he was experiencing that moment for the first time. “I want this,” Liam said as he stood in his chair and grabbed Justin’s carrots. “There is more here,” Debbie told him but Liam shook his head and sat back down. “I’m telling you,” Brian said. “They do it on purpose.” “We know,” Chris said smiling since he had experienced similar stuff with Vicky. “Yeah,” Emmett smiled. Debbie smiled seeing all of them happy. “We are leaving the boys with Jackie,” Emmett said. “Our baby sitter.” “We are going to Babylon,” Ted told them as he finished eating. “Do you guys want to come?” “I don’t know,” Chris said. “I can stay with the kids,” Debbie offered. “You should go out and have a fun time.” Chris frowned. “I’ll think about it.” “What’s Babylon?” Justin asked feeding Liam more carrots. “It’s a gay club,” Brian told him. “Do you guys want to come?” Ted asked. “We’ll get a few beers and hang around,” Emmett said. “Justin can’t drink,” Brian said quickly. “Why not?” Justin asked. Brian looked at the blond. “Brian, why not?” Justin asked him. “Don’t tell me,” Chris said. Everyone reached the same conclusion simultaneously. They couldn’t believe Brian hadn’t told Justin anything regarding his current condition. “I need to talk to you Justin,” Brian said getting up. Brian needed to say something before Justin learned from anyone else. Justin cleaned his hands and followed Brian outside once again. “What is it that you have to tell me, Brian?” Justin asked somewhat scared. “I know I should have said something before but, I didn’t want to freak you out and I thought that maybe you were going to remember everything,” Brian explained. “What?” Justin asked. “Just say it.” “You are pregnant,” Brian told him. Justin stared at him. “What?” “We were trying to have a kid, Justin,” Brian sighed. “When you were in the hospital we found out that you were pregnant.” “We were trying to have a kid?” Justin asked. “Why exactly? I mean kids are great but we already had kids, Brian.” “I know, Jus,” Brian sighed. “It was something that we had agreed on a long time ago and now we still wanted to do it. I guest we were trying to deal with some issues.” Justin frowned. “You mean because of the baby we lost.” Brian nodded slowly. Justin sighed and touched his belly. He couldn’t believe he had a life growing inside of him. “I don’t know what to say,” he dropped his hands to the side. “I...” Brian pulled him into a hug. “It’s going to be okay, Justin.” “How many months do I have?” Justin asked pulling back a bit. “Two months,” Brian told him. “And some days.” “You should’ve said something,” Justin told him. “I know,” Brian sighed. “I’m sorry. Are you mad?” Justin shook his head. “No, it’s not that.” “What is it?” Brian asked him. “It just...it would explain these weird feelings I’ve been having,” Justin said. “Like?” Brian asked. “Like getting so hot I thought I was going to burn,” Justin told him, “and these awful headaches.” Brian nodded. “And just the other day I felt like eating a pickle with ice cream, cherry syrup, raisins and honey and imagining in my head that it would taste so damn good,” Justin said. “I was salivating over the thought alone and also thinking that I was totally crazy.” “Wow, I never did try something like that when I got pregnant,” Brian told him. “What do you have in there?” “Brian!” Justin yelled but ended up laughing with the brunet. “It will be okay,” Brian told him after a while and hugged him. Justin held on to Brian. It was moments like these when he hated that he didn’t remember his life. He hated having to rely on Brian’s memories. Justin wished that he remember what it had felt like to be pregnant before. Once again he had a fear about being a husband and a father. Sometimes it was all overwhelming and he didn’t know if he could do it. So Justin held on to Brian and felt safe and knew it all was going to be okay.
