Two weeks passed from the day Brian and Justin met and instantly became friends. Two weeks full of Christmas decorations, laughter, sunshiny smiles, Friends’ reruns, quiet talks, songs on the terrace and sexual tension, that quite rightly, was driving the men insane with desire. Two weeks of unasked and unanswered questions had also passed and the ramifications due to the unknown were beginning to take it’s toll on both Brian and Justin. Justin wondered what Brian’s life was like at home, even though he spent most of his time with Justin at the hospital, Brian remained secretive concerning what he did with his time away, always avoiding the ‘almost questions.’ Brian had a different slew of worries on his mind. The biggest was the most obvious, the father of Justin’s babies, who they did not discuss, as well as the circumstances surrounding the conception. Both were fearful, of both the questions and answers. Neither really understood why, considering that they had talked about almost everything else and felt more comfortable with one another than they had with anyone, even the people they had known most their lives. Luckily, the young men had confided in Daphne about their fears and she encouraged them both to, in her words, “Get over it and ask. Nothing is as bad as not knowing.” She of course knew the answers to both of the boys’ questions, but she also knew it was not her place to tell. On the condition that Justin would come back at 6:00 a.m. the day after Christmas, Justin was given the okay to go home tomorrow for Christmas Eve and Day. Daphne had pulled some strings citing that she, a licensed nurse, would be with him both days. Justin had been showing a lot of progress, he had actually gained 10 pounds! This was practically unheard of, but with all the healthy goodies a certain ‘volunteer’ brought him, there was no way to not gain weight. Today, the day of the hospital’s Christmas Bash, organized by Brian. Justin and Daphne were shopping at the gift shop on the first floor of the facility while Brian cleaned the floors amongst the building. “So, what are you getting Brian?” Daphne asked her best friend. Justin shook his head worriedly. “I don’t know Daph. There really isn’t much in here to choose from. I wish I could go out and get him something.” Justin said sadly. Daphne smiled. She knew exactly what Brian wanted for Christmas from the gift shop. She and Brian had visited the shop just yesterday when Brian told Daphne what he had always wanted as a child, a yoyo. Brian had told her that his parents never allowed him to have one because they said they were dangerous. She watched as Brian grabbed a red one out of the plastic toy bin and held it tightly to him before dropping it back in and walking outside the shop. “I know exactly what he wants.” Daphne said. Looking at Justin who just so happened to pick the item up. “What Daphne you have to tell me.” Justin squealed. “A yoyo.” She said matter of fact. “What?” Justin asked confused, he thought it was a cool gift, but for Brian Kinney? “A yoyo. We were looking around in here yesterday and he saw that red yoyo.” Daphne explained pointing it out. “He said he always wanted one but his parents wouldn’t let him have one, they said they were too dangerous or something. I think it was more than that, but, anyway, that is what you should buy him.” Justin smiled. “A yoyo it is.” He said. The two friends paid for the item as well as a small gift bag to place it in and left the store. Justin was in a much better mood. Brian had his own surprise for Justin. It was huge. He was nervous, and hoped to god that Justin would like it. He had gotten permission to get Justin to leave that afternoon. Unbeknownst to Justin of course, and Brian was headed to the blonde’s room to spring him free. Brian knocked on the door of Justin’s room and heard a quiet, “come in” from Justin. When he entered the room he was breathless. He also knew he was in love with the man. It took him a moment to compose himself as he neared a shirtless Justin sitting on the bed with some sort of head phone contraption attached to his growing belly. Times like this, Brian wished they were his children, oh how he wanted them to be. All he knew about the babies was that they did not have a father and Brian was certain that he wanted to be the father to Justin’s babies. He already loved them. From the moment, he saw their tiny images on the ultra sound machine last week. Brian cried with Justin and held the boy’s hand tightly as they watched the screen in awe of the little lives. “Hi.” Justin said excited, taking the head phones off and pulling his blanket over his stomach blushing, as though Brian had not seen it at least once a day the past two weeks. Really, Justin couldn’t remember a time that Brian hadn’t greeted Justin with a kiss on the cheek and then three small kisses on his bare belly. Justin’s body would tingle and his penis would embarrassingly harden each time. This time it was no different. However instead of Brian pulling away from his belly he felt the older man start to kiss his way up his chest, neck and then finally he placed a soft passionate kiss on Justin’s lips. They were both breathing hard as Brian pulled away and looked into Justin’s deep blue eyes. He cleared his throat. “I have a surprise for you Justin.” Brian said. Justin’s mind was spinning. He could only nod his head. “I talked to your Doc and he agreed that I could spring you a day early!” Brian waited. Justin smiled and pulled Brian into his embrace. “Thank you so much Brian. But what about the Christmas Bash?” “Daphne is going to take care of all of that. I mean, if you want to come with me?” Justin smiled his sunshine smile. “Where? When?” “Well that’s a surprise too.” Brian smiled. “Going someplace I don’t know with a guy I just met in New York, it could be dangerous.” Justin joked. Brian laughed, but then his face got serious. “I think you know me Justin.” He whispered looking into the eyes of the man he loved. “And I think I know you. But I want to know more Justin.” Justin placed his warm soft hands into Brian’s larger ones. “What do you want to know Brian?” Brian smiled. “Everything! But first I want you to tell me about the babies.” Brian said leading their entwined hands to rest upon his protruding flesh. “The babies are fine Brian, I would have told you.” “No, Justin.” Brian shook his head and took a deep breath. “I just, I want to know whether or not, well, if I, I mean, I know this is all going so fast, I just I want to, oh god Justin, I don’t know.” Brian was rambling nervously. “What Brian?” Justin asked confused. “Tell me.” “I think I have fallen in love with you Justin. No, I know I have, and I have fallen in love with these babies.” Brian said gently pressing on Justin’s belly. “I just want you to know that I want to be the babies’ father. You said they didn’t have one, but someone had to get you pregnant and I don’t want to think I am their father and then one day have someone take that away from me. I mean, if you want me to be.” Brian looked away from Justin. He could not bare the rejection he was sure would come. “Brian?” Justin whispered through tears. He turned Brian’s face to his own. “The man who got me pregnant, he, he said that he never slept with me. When I tried to confront him, he said I was mistaken, I was stupid that night, and I was drunk on wine, beer or something. He left and when I went to find him, he denied it all. He does not know anything about the children and he never will. I never got that far with him.” The fact that Brian had told Justin he loved him had still not hit him, until now. “You, you love me Brian?” Justin asked. Brian brought the smaller man into his embrace. “I do Justin and I love your babies too.” Brian said stroking the long locks of blond hair. Justin pulled back and smiled through tears. “I love you too Brian. And I love OUR babies.” Justin said. Brian felt tears pour into his eyes. “So does this mean you want me to be the father Justin?” Brian asked hopefully. If it did, then it meant that the rest of Justin’s surprise would go over well. “Brian. As far as I am concerned, you are. You are such a good man Brian. You will be the best dad our children could ever have.” Justin said and kissed Brian lightly.
