Your writing is beautiful. I love looking into Brian's feelings after the dramatic break up, and this did it justice perfectly. And the ending... heartbreaking. Definitely not implausible, given the safety of the mask. Brian is surprisingly honest with himself here, which I think is permissible, since these are his deepest thouhts. Very sad, but beautiful. I loved the image of the dull ache in his stomach, the pain and the wetness leaking from around his eyes. Excellent work.

Lovely vignette of how Brian might have felt watching Justin walk away with Ethan.  He was, indeed, in a quandary; after all, he was 'Brian Kinney,' the man who didn't do love or romance, so he had a reputation to maintain.  All of us knew, though, that he felt things much more deeply than he appeared to.  I remember watching Debbie observe him and the look on her face.  I think she realized exactly what he was letting go of, and how much it must have hurt him, but also how Justin craved some of the things that he thought Ethan could provide for him but Brian couldn't.  I loved the conversation between them in Ep. 206 when Brian could no longer deny that he loved Justin.

Thank you for sharing this with us - and I'm delighted that you're posting on the site.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Author's Response:

yes! I too love that scene in 2.06 (one of my fav's of the whole show), and that scene coupled with the way Brian looked at the end of season 2 were the exact two things that made me write this. I also think Debbie is really the only one to realize and notice that Brian was changing and maturing after meeting Justin. The other guys, and even Lindsay, only continued to see him as the Brian they knew - which didn't help Brian at all.
