Poor, poor deluded Michael. Is any part of his life based on reality???? You have Michael pegged perfectly and let's be honest with a whiny, clingy, delusional 'friend' like him who needs enemies. Friends are supposed to enhance your life not make you feel stressed. Friends want the best for their friends, for them to be happy unlike Mikey who wants everything HIS way or no way. Certainly NOT a description of a 'best friend'.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!! OMG my sides are ACHING right now!! The title is absolutely FABULOUS and accurate! So much to address here...
First, I would be remissed if I didn't thank you for the shout out and accepting my little input, such as it were. Remind me to call a priest at my earliest convenience for a Mikey-cism. It just has to happen...LOL
Secondly, Michael needs a Brian-cism or a new brain. Better still he needs one of those things from Men in Black that erases his memory or what he'd like to think is his memory. I would also suggest a WHINE-ectomy as soon as possible. Every single line I read from this character, the whine is unmistakable.
Third and MOST important is you have done a spectacular job with this fic so far! I am so proud and honored to be writing with you!
Happy Writing,
~Nichelle

Oh my I'm dying of laughter. This is simply the BEST Mikey POV on Brian and their "relationship" I have ever read. EVER. You nailed Mikey spot on. And this is a far better explaination than we ever got for him and his hatred of Justin in canon. Will be accepting this as new head canon for my self. Thank you for the laugh too.

Selfish little snit isn't he. Even if he fantasy came to be, and it is a fantasy not a dream, Brian would never give Michael what he gave Justin. His heart. Justin leys Brian be Brian. Michael can't and won't let that happen.
Author's Response: Michael has always clung to the notion that no one could care for Brian the way he could. Being selfish in his motives but disguising it as looking after his best friend.

I've just re-read all the chapters plus this new one - Poor people (shaking my head at their mistaken attitudes) - it's so hard to own up to your own mistakes - the ego does takes a bit of a beating....(rolling my eyes at them now) It's interesting to see each character get a clue and own up to the truth. Now maybe they can get it right or at least better.
I always thought it was unfair to put the blame on Brian for everything - half the time he wasn't even there when 'whatever happened' happened. (I have heaps of experience in that phenomenon as I'm sure many others do to)
I'm a little scared of what you've got in mind for the others - can't wait...... I give you endless permission (not that you need it) to rip Michael to shreds.
Author's Response: Lol...I will do my best to rip Mikey a new one on the sly ;)

Emmett is one of QAF's character (if not the only one) who isn't affected, one way or another, by Brian Kinney. He might be the only one who can not let his personal feelings cloud his judgement. I love love LOVE this chapter! It's a totally unique experience for me. I've never read anything from Emmett's POV before. I love seeing Brian through his eyes because he has a more objective opinion than Deb, Michael, Lindsay, Mel - and even Ted, I think, because Brian dumps on poor Ted so much. Of all The Family, Emmett has the ability to see Brian the most clearly, which he shows when he goes to Brian's office to beg him to help Teddy - he says that deep down he knows that Brian cares about him and Ted even if he goes out of is way to pretend that he doesn't.
As as aside - I've always found it interesting that Emmett doesn't seem at all attracted to Brian. Almost everyone else in the show is (including, imo, Jennifer - and even Mel to a degree, after all she spends a lot of time thinking about his cock). But Emmett is immune to Brian's considerable sex appeal even though I'm sure Emmett appreciates Brian's beauty from a purely aesthtic perspective. I think it's good for Brian to have someone in his world who isn't sexually attracted to him to some degree (I think Ted is - maybe not entirely consciously, but wanting to *be* Brian is a form of attraction - if you can't have someone, you might fantasize about being that person).
I'm enjoying this story very much and look forward to reading the next chapter. I'm sorry I wasn't here earlier to support your efforts from day-one as you have always done for me, but better late than never, right? :)
Author's Response: It doesn't matter when you show up, as long as you make it to the party...that's all that matters ;) You know, it really never occurred to me that Emmett was the only one not plied by Brian’s charms. I thought that maybe he and Brian had a one and done when they first met, but now I'm not so sure. Could it have been that he only saw his beauty from an ahstetic viewpoint? Quite possibly, and you're right this might also be the reason why he can see past Brian’s facade when no one else could.

Again, as with Melanie, I really appreciate the fact that you're critical of Deb's attitude and actions toward Brian, but you don't demonize her.
The whole Push-Mikey-Off-The-Cliff arc is one of my favorites because it really shows very clearly the dynamic between Deb and Brian and how much they love each other (although that love is complicated for Deb because she so often sees Brian's interests as in conflict with Michael's - and at the end of the day, she's always going to take michael's side, as any mother would).
I really loved your portrayal of her thoughts about fourteen year-old Brian (you've given me a huge, gnawing plot bunny, btw!). They're so poignant. I think that Brian loves Deb very much and really does see her, not only as a second mother, but his *real* mother. I think that she's very fond of him too, but that her feelings are far more complicated than his. The scene in which she comes to Brian and basically tells him to fuck-off and leave Michael and David alone tears me up every time I watch it, as does the scene in which Deb returns to pick up Michael's presents and tells Brian to "take care, kiddo." You can just see the pain and loneliness radiating from Brian's body - his dejected posture and turned back so that she won't see how terribly upset he is.
I would love to see inside her head and read about her thoughts after she goes to see Brian and thanks him for pushing Michael off the cliff. She must've seen how upset he was, and that must've affected her. Perhaps you could write part II . . . . . . not that that's a hint or anything ;)
Author's Response: Nope...totally not a hint at all lol. I agree that Debbie’s feelings toward Brian run the emotional gamut, but in the end she truly views him as her second son (Sunshine being the third) even so she still doesn't fully appreciate all that Brian is. He’s so much more than just the top cock in the backroom of Babylon, he's a father,a friend, an anonymous life saver. For all his faults, they don't completely make up the man that is Brian Kinney...it's such a shame that she failed to see it since she's the one who's known him a lot longer than he's known himself ;)

Somehow this fantastic little story did not get on my radar until now - my apologies for being late to the party :)
I'm finding this story VERY satisfying to read because I love reading about Brian being vindicated. The format of individual characters' monologues works really well. I really like and greatly appreciate that you don't demonize the other characters even though you're pointing out how wrong they sometimes are about Brian. As you know, I love all the characters in QaF and believe that The Family is hugely important to Brian and that, at the end of the day, they help him more than hurt him. You've made Melanie, Debbie and Emmett very sympathetic, and I'm grateful for that :)
I especially like this chapter. I've read very little fanfic involving Melanie, let alone showing things through her POV. She's a very interesting character, and I think you get her voice just right (I'm a big fan of Maryann, too). She and Brian have a very interesting dynamic - I think they respect each other even though they do play tug o' war over Lindsay and Gus quite a bit. They're birds of a feather, imo. Tough, tenacious, overly-combative but also capable of great love and kindness. I think they (relunctantly) see those things in each other.
Author's Response: I love your whole review and agree 100%. However...we need to have an in depth conversation about this. I'd be interested in hearing more on your thoughts about it.

Wonder how hurt little Mikey would have been if he knew his mother was partially to blame for the stunt Brian pulled. Never liked the fact that she didn't own up. Poor little Mikey was afraid to grow up. Not really Brian's fault.
Author's Response: I think Michael's faith in Debbie would have been irrevocably shaken had he found out about the role she played in the whole scheme.

I always hated the fact that she didn't take any blame. Yeah he went about wrong, But poor little Mikey needed the push. He was too afraid to grow up on his own.

Her anger at Brian for not signing over his rights was justifiable. Her taking a page out of his handbook and cheating on Lindsay, all on her own
Author's Response: Hmmmm...it's interesting that you felt Mel's anger at Brian about his decision not to sign over his parental rights was justifiable. We are however in total agreement that her cheating was absolutely of her own design.

Author's Response: Thank you for your kind words :) out of all the characters on the show, I always felt that Emmett was the more insightful one of the bunch. He had an ability to see and understand others in a way that most people didn’t get. This was especially true when it came to Brian.

Love this chapter! Every word of it. You so totally nailed Deb at least as far as I see her. The way she treats Brian drives me crazy he's never deserved it IMO. Mikey's Birthday and Brian shoving him off Mount Kinney is a prime example. Thank you so much for writing this its good to know I'm not alone in my disgust for certain characters!!

Author's Response: Oh my...Thank you so much! I'm thrilled that you feel I've captured Debbie in just the right light :) we do share the same feelings as far as the family's treatment of Brian is concerned. They like to keep him in the role of the asshole that they can depend on when it suits their needs...and you're right, Mikey's birthday was the perfect example.

I liked it! :) I liked that you walked us through Debbie's whole point of view on the whole episode with David and the birthday party.... I always thought that Debbie was the one at fault on the whole party thing.... And also that Michael was a really big baby, a momma's boy, and she didn't even realize it, always blaming Brian for Michael's fuckups and problems..... But anyway, I'm really looking forward to the next chapter! :) Hope to read you soon! Kisses!
Author's Response: I'm so glad you liked it my friend :) That whole episode with the party and forcing Brian to let go always bothered me. Why couldn't Debbie let Michael make his own decision for once in his life? I also found it interesting that Mikey never found out about her and Brian's little conversation...although I do think that someone caught wind of what was really going on but chose to stay out of it out of respect ;)

Never cared for that little speech of hers. Brian didn't owe Michael a thing. I think as you alluded to, she expected Brian to handle her problems, Michael's problems and anyone else's with no thought of him himself. Michael was 30, should have been able to stand up for himself. Should have been proud of himself.
Author's Response: Michael was 30, should have been able to stand up for himself. Should have been proud of himself.
Oh how I wish wittle Mikey would have been able to grasp that concept. Debbie should have let her son fly...win or lose in the end it would have made him a stronger man, not forcing his best friend to end their friendship. She didn't realize that she only pushed him into an even more unhealthy relationship.

I just realized you had to reload this after MW crashed. Sorry you lost your reviews. I can't remember what I wrote, but I did mention I loved the idea of going through each character; however, I'm not sure I want to see Justin blaming Brian. What you have written here just brought back memories as it did take Debbie a little while to figure out what Brian had done and I was thrilled when she realised it. I would love to see a chapter on Zen Ben. I don't think he will be the next one; still I hope you don't miss him out. My guess would be it is either, Michael, Lindsay, Ted, Emmett, Jennifer, Carl, Craig, Blake, Gus, Calvin, Ethan, Chris, Stockwell or Todd. Am I close? LOL (you had to know I would make a list). Seriously;I am really enjoying this and I look forward to the updates whenever you can.

Interesting take. Brian's flirtation with Michael was one part of his character that I've never been able to get a full grip on. Was he afraid to go further because he was afraid if things didn't work out he'd lose the only family he had? Was he purposely toying with Michael because he liked keeping the upper hand in their relationship, Michael always wanting Brian, Brian always pushing him away, or was he just oblivious (the least likely option - the open mouthed kisses were clearly sexual - there are plenty of other ways to express affection without becoming sexual.) And while I'm a huge fan of Brian's and think he's an incredibly kind and sympathetic character, I think he overreacted in his birthday outing of Michael and we never see him acknowledge that there was anything odd about the way he kept stringing Michael along. Nice writing though and would like to see more.
Author's Response: Thank you for the warm compliment my friend! It's these kind words of encouragement that feed my muse and keep me writing :) Hmmm...I don't think Brian's interaction with Michael really had anything to do with him keeping the upper hand in their relationship, I believe it had more to do with making sure he didn't sever ties with what he considered to be his real family. True there are plenty of other ways to express one's affection, but think about it this way if your best friend suddenly stopped showing you a routine form of affection you would think something was wrong. I do agree that under normal circumstances Brian's outing of Mikey would have been over the top, but he didn't see any other way being that Debbie forced his hand ;)

Hi, my friend - I feel your pain! Sigh..I guess it's a small price to pay to get the site moved to a much more secure host. Once again, too, I will have the pleasure of reading this unique story. Looking forward to reading about each of the different viewpoints you will be presenting. *Hugs* ~Kim
Author's Response: Hi Kim! Yeah the down time was a real bummer my friend but luckily we are back home where we belong. I want to say a big thank you for all your support and dedication to the site, now I'm off to work on the second installment ;) LOL

WOW! You capturef Melanie's psyche and persona so well that it seems like she's talking directly at me... words right out of her own mouth. I'm utterly impressed by how well you've done that. Hats off to you, excellent job, Jazzepoet... done like a true POET, LOL!
Thank you so much for that,
Brianawriter~
Author's Response: Wow...BrianaWriter all I can say is thank you!! It's reviews like these *points up to other reader's kind words* that make me strive to be a better, more accomplished writer.
