In this story Gale has commitment issues. He's had a long standing commitment with Randy that's really kind of unsaid. They've never discussed the conditions or thier arangement. When Gale is on TV, Randy watches. When Randy has a show, Gale is there. The next chapter will cover more of what Gale understands their arrangement to be. A key point in the story is that they don't communicate explictly with each other.

Gale is upset about breaking up with his girlfriend. I think her name was Yara? Gale's been in quite a few long term relationships and never put a ring on it so I was drawing from that.
