This story is perfection! I love it more every time I read it :) I really think you nailed the characters and the situation perfectly and Justin’s inner thoughts are just how I see the situation with Lindsay and Mel (I’m also a sucker for some hurt!justin and protective!brian too)

Author's Response: Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I could understand that the girls would get away with their patronising attitude to Justin in S1, but by S5 ... really, no. And yes - I love protective!brian. So the gift request was just perfect for me.

Enjoyed this very much. I am in complete agreement with your take on the "family" dynamics. Your point about the patronizing/matronizing brought to mind the scene in the show where Justin complains to Daphne about the family infantilizing him after the bashing. So glad to see Brian standing up to the women. Their playing on Brian's insecurities, their taking advantage of him, and their use of Gus as a bargaining chip are despicable. High time they were tossed from the gravy train, or, at least, made to understand that actions have consequences. Again, glad Brian was able to teach that lesson.

As for the gravy train I'll never forget the scene in S1 where Linds comes looking for a hand out when Brian is on suspension over Kip. I mean, seriously?
Would have loved him to parlay their poor money management into a formal agreement over Gus in canon

I so agree with you how Linz and Mel and especially Debbie treat Justin like he's barely potty trained, Jen gives him more respect than they do. His age does not make him a child anymore than mikey's age makes him an adult. The thing is mikey,Debbie, Linz and Mel all have in common is meddleing in affairs none of their concern--mainly Brian and Justin's relationship-its private and they do not require those people's approval, unlike them Jenn just wants them happy and she would never use blackmail concerning Brian's money. The before mentioned parasites feel free to ask for money and to demand what they feel is appropriate responses. Finally Brian and Justin decide not to let this happen time after time--they have the money to make some demands about seeing Gus. Gus loves his daddy and Jus and wants to see them-the family should know, no more manipulation. I love this story that someone felt like me, being a mother doesn't put you on a pedestal, but being a good and loving one who shares their child with his daddy does.
Author's Response: "being a mother doesn't put you on a pedestal" - well put. And clearly I agree with the rest as well. It's funny, Randy commented a number of times about Justin being patronized by Brian and my reaction was always "well, not as much as by just about every other character in the show". And especially Mel and Lindsay. It's not like they were so damned smart or wise. They really messed up constantly. Oh, it annoyed me.

Love it. I can just see Brian driving Justin nuts and I can see Brian doing every thing he can to make it a great Christmas for the two most important people in his life. It's about time he put the screws on those girls....

Author's Response: Thank you. It's nice to find like minded people. I truly don't feel the Mikey love. He gave me the heebies from the very first scene in 101. And the lesbians became progressively more objectionable right through the series.
